Chuseok, also known as Korean Thanksgiving, is one of the most important and festive holidays of the year. Traditionally, Koreans return to their ancestral homeland to celebrate chuseok with their families.

On this day, the full moon rises in the sky, and it is a day when families gather to thank their ancestors for a bountiful harvest, play traditional games, eat and share hearty food and harvested grains, and have a good time together. Additionally, ancestral rites are held to thank the ancestors by filling the table with freshly harvested rice and fruits.

Koreans spend Chuseok by making special foods, especially rice cakes called songpyeon. Songpyeon is a traditional food made by finely grinding glutinous rice, kneading the dough into a small, round shape, and adding sesame seeds, chestnuts, and red beans.
